求菩薩是否有求必應要看自身功德多少

男聽眾：師父，我們求菩薩的時候，是一祈求菩薩就來幫助我們，還是等到這件事情的功德足夠了，才會來幫助我們？如果我們所求的事情需要50個功德，是我們功德離目標功德達到50個就能成就，還是需要更多一些呢？請師父慈悲開示。

台長答：我只能這樣講吧，你沒有50個功德，你看不見菩薩，菩薩聽不見你講話，並不是說菩薩不想救你。比方說你在很遠的地方，你沒有通訊設備，菩薩聽不見，因為你的功力不夠。你在很遠的地方，媽媽不知道你想講什麼，要救你，媽媽怎麼救你？

（明白。師父，換句話說，有功德的人跟菩薩講，菩薩就聽得到；那種業障很重的跟菩薩講，菩薩就很難聽得到。是這樣理解嗎？）

對。不是說菩薩有分別心，菩薩，只要你求祂，祂有求必應的，問題是你求得到求不到（是的）

現在明白了嗎？（對。有的同修天天在佛面前跟菩薩求這求那。菩薩還是看他的修為和功德，是這樣嗎，師父？）

One's wishes to be fulfilled or not depend on their amount of merits and virtues

Caller: Master Lu, will Bodhisattva immediately grant help to us once we have articulated our prayers? Or, do we need to wait until there are enough merits and virtues? If we need 50 merits and virtues for a wish, will the wish be fulfilled once we have gained 50 merits and virtues or more will be needed? Master Lu, please kindly teach us.

Master Lu: I will just say this; if you do not have 50 merits and virtues, you cannot see Bodhisattva and Bodhisattva cannot hear your prayers. But it does not mean that Bodhisattva does not want to save and grant you help. Let’s say you are far away and you don’t have any communication equipment; Bodhisattva will not be able to hear from you. This is because you do not have enough spiritual power. You are far away from your mother, and she does not know what you want to say. How can she save you?

Caller: Understood. Master Lu, in other words, Bodhisattva can hear the prayers from practitioners who have merits and virtues; while Bodhisattva can hardly hear the prayers from practitioners who carry heavy karmic debts. Should it be comprehended in this way?

Master Lu: Yes, it is not that Bodhisattva discriminates. If you pray, Bodhisattva will surely answer. The problem is whether you can transmit your prayer to Bodhisattva, and therefore have your wish fulfilled.

Caller: Right.

Master Lu: Understand now?

Caller: Yes. Every day, some Buddhist practitioners pray for this and pray for that in front of the Buddhist altar. But Bodhisattva will still look at their level of spiritual development and their merits and virtues in order to fulfil their wishes, right?

Master Lu: Yes.

Caller: OK, understood. Thank you, Master Lu, for your kind teaching.
