 Excerpt from Buddhism in Plain Terms, Book 11, Chapter 17

Many people ask, ‘Master Lu, why would I still be worried and my karmic obstacles increase even after I have started spiritual cultivation and reciting Buddhist scriptures? Why would there be more and more karmic creditors after I have started reciting “Little Houses”?’

It is because you have never recited Buddhist scriptures before. This is as if you have not been paying back your loans for all these years, and once you start paying back the money there is pressure suddenly. Since you need to pay back your loans, you finally realise how hard it is to earn money and you cut down on your expenses; that is how it works.

Because of the existence of these negative affinities which stem from our karma, it would help us to cultivate our physical body and our spirituality more diligently.

很多人問：「師父，為什麼我修心念經之後，我會想不通，我的業障會多起來？念了小房子，要經者怎麼會越來越多？」

因為你過去從來沒有念過經文，就猶如這麼多年你都沒有還過貸款，你從現在開始還錢了，一下子是會有壓力的。因為你要還貸款，你才知道掙錢的不容易，你才會節約用錢，道理都是一樣的

正是由於這些業緣的存在，才使得我們需要更加精進地去修持，去修持自身、自心，就是修自己的身體和自己的心。
